Changing instrument styles and settings
Each instrument in Strum Machine has a variety of settings that can be used to customize how that virtual instrument is played. To view or change these settings, simply open the Band Settings menu and click on one of the instruments:

For example, here's what you'll see if you are using the default band settings and you click on "Guitar" – see below for comments on red-numbered items:

The current rhythm pattern for the instrument is shown at the top. Click on this to see other rhythms and playing styles for this instrument.
Under "Pattern customizations", you'll find options for modifying the current rhythm pattern. The particular options available will vary depending on which broad category of rhythm pattern is chosen.
Below that, you'll find other (non-rhythm-focused) settings which are relevant to the current playing style, such as bass runs and chord voicing preferences.
At the bottom of the list, you'll find the volume and pan settings for the instrument. Changes made here affect the current song only; for global volume/pan settings (which is usually preferable), go to the Audio/Mix Settings panel.
You'll always find a Play button at the top of the menu, which starts playback of the current song with the current band settings. Playback will update live as you make changes to the instrument settings.
